Illustrate That Some Of The Modern Day Diseases Are Man Made - 1375 Words
Illustrate That Some Of The Modern Day Diseases Are Man Made (Essay Sample) Content: MAN-MADE DISEASENameInstitutional affiliationIntroductionCancer is characterized by rapid growth of body cells. This increase is so fast that the cells can no longer be controlled by the various biological processes of the body. This massive growth makes the body cells to be out of control and overshadow the normal cells thus impairing how they should function. Healthy body cells divide and grow in an orderly manner which makes it easier for them to perform their functions efficiently. At the same time, these healthy cells die after some time thereby giving room for new cells that are being formed.Cancer is caused by some elements commonly referred to as carcinogenic compounds. These compounds facilitate carcinogenesis which is the process of cancer formation. These compounds can alter how the metabolic processes of the cells are and also change the genome of the living being. An example of such substances includes tobacco contained in cigarettes, exposure to the suns Ultra violet rays and other forms of harmful radiations (Steenland, 2010). There are four stages of cancer development. The first two stages 1 and 2 being the early stages of the cancer growth. The third stage and the fourth stage representing the late stages of the cancer disease.Several types of cancers have been known to exist. These tumors can occur just and about any part of the body. The most common cancer diseases that have been recorded include; lung cancer, breast cancer, colon cancer, blood cancer and brain cancer (Steenland, 2010).Cancer cells can develop in a specific area such as in the lungs and spread to another area such as in the bone. Once in the bone, the lung cancer cells start their rapid growth all over again. This spread of cancer cells from one region to the other is called metastasis.to the medical practitioners these cancer cells are not regarded as bone cancer but rather as lung cancer cells having originated from the lungs. Cancers are named according to their areas of Genesis.Cancers are different and unique in different ways. Although cancer cells are known to grow rapidly, some cancer cell grows slowly but ultimately crowding their regions of growth. Cancer treatments vary and are undertaken depending on the cancer type and stage of growth. These different treatments include; use of radiation-this is used to kill the cancerous cells or slow down their growth, surgery-used to remove the malignant tumors or parts of the affected organs and chemotherapy-this involves the administration of drugs to kill cancer cells or slow down their growth. This form of treatment is effectively used for cancers that have spread to vast regions of the body as drugs have a far broader reaching effect. Most cancers will form lumps in their regions of growth. These bumps are referred to as tumors or simply growth (Tseng, 2008).it is from these tumors that doctors remove cells to determine the type of cancer present. Not necessarily all lumps in the bod y are as a result of cancer. There are lumps known as benign. Cancer does not cause these lumps. Lumps that are caused by cancer are called malignant lumps.Cancer is only a modern, man-made disease. In the middle of the year 2010, a story was run on the Seattle Times about a long-serving chemist, Sue Crump. A year later in 2011 Sue Crump was reported to have succumbed to pancreatic cancer.it was reported that she had spent much of her twenty years career dispensing chemotherapy drugs.as part of her dying wish, Crump requested that truth about her illness be told. She believed that her exposure to chemotherapy drugs such as doxorubicin, methotrexate, cyclophosphamide, and fluorouracil had a direct impact on her predicaments (Tseng, 1997).Her story resonates so much with the belief that indeed chemotherapy causes cancer. A disease that it should treat. This belief is further solidified by statistical studies on the frequency of cancer case among nurses and physicians offering chemother apy to cancer patients. They make themselves glass houses in the name of a profession but yet go around throwing stones. Tragic!Every oncologist knows that chemotherapy drugs do cause some genetic damage. This damage goes a long way in altering how body cells develop. Altering their functionality too.as a result of unprecedented spills chemotherapy drugs have been found on countertops, floors, keyboards and other areas where humans have come into contact with them. Most of these chemotherapy drugs are genotoxic. This means that they can alter and bring about gene mutations.A study done by a Danish doctor from the 1940s through to 1980s showed that cancer doctors and nurses are at a higher risk of developing cancer. This was directly related to their interaction with the chemo drugs. It could not have been a case of far too unlucky person but the reality of coming into contact with cancer-treating drugs. The study has shown that patients suffering from one particular cancer when injec ted with chemo drugs they are at a high risk of developing different cancer. The caregiver and the oncologist are often tempted to claim that they healed first cancer but fail to disclose that their treatment and drugs administered directly led to the other form. This is because the chemo drugs administered are carcinogenic, toxic and harmful to the immune system. There are obvious signs that chemo drugs are harmful. First chemo drugs will lead to the patients having their hairs falling off. The patients feel dizzy most of the times, and in most cases, the patients are reported to be vomiting a lot. Patients on chemo drugs experience dehydration. Anemia cases among the patients are also reported. These signs do not just bring to light that cancer is a killer disease but rather confirm the chemo drugs administered are both harmful and carcinogenic (Boffetta, 2007).In 1996 the world health organization (W.H.O) found Tamoxifen to be carcinogenic. This drug (Tamoxifen) is still being use d in chemo drugs in the treatment of cancer. This glaring evidence just shows how the pharmaceutical industry involved in the manufacturing and selling of chemo drugs has become cancerous to the human population. As long as the profits and gains do trickle in then the rest doesn't matter. Including those tasked with administering the drugs. For instance, in the United States, conventional cancer treatment generates over $200 Billion annually. The pharmaceutical industry involved would rather keep on selling these drugs due to the high profits that they rake in.On the other hand, scientific study has shown a contrary opinion. Cancer in no way is a manmade problem. Several factors have been proven beyond reasonable doubts to be contributing to the many cases of cancer being reported and recorded. For instance our lifestyle ...

Anne Brontes Literary Success as a Visionary Writer
Anne Bronte as a visionary writer: her literary success I am reminded of a parable as to what happens when one desires to beat time. A childless couple approached the Perfect Master for his grace to be blessed with progeny. The Master who had the power to know the past, present and the future, advised them that they were not lucky in this respect in this birth. They pleaded for His grace and the Perfect Master warned them of the consequences of taking liberty with the laws of nature. Yet, the couple was persistent. ââ¬Å"So be itâ⬠, said the Perfect Master and after nine months a baby-girl was born to the couple, but strangely, her right was folded and the child had a natural cell phone (made of flesh and blood) in her grip. She was not able to stretch her hands. ââ¬Å"This child is part of the generation that we are going to get after ninety years, and I have pulled a soul that was due to take birth then, for your present benefitâ⬠, said the Perfect Master. ââ¬Å"I have picked up one soul from that lot, and you are thus spe cially gracedâ⬠. Similarly, Anne Bronte was able to visualize in The Tenant of Wildfell Hall the characteristics of the twenty-first generation. Anne Bronte (1820-1849) was the contemporary of Karl Marx (1818-1883) but her lifespan was just 29 years. If her literature is read today in front of the grave of Karl Marx it would make him shift in the grave. At such a young age, her thinking was revolutionary, even without being exposed to the secular world in a big way.Show MoreRelatedVictorian Novel9605 Words à |à 39 Pagesis one transcending aspect to Victorian England life and society, that aspect is change. Animal testing has had many negative issues arise in society in a negative way. Debating over the animal rights movement has raised many questions and concerns for years. The Southeast Asian Cases From Two Aspects Of Electoral...
It is undeniable that the global trend modern election campaign have also reached Northeast Asian democracies. But just as any other liberal countries in the world, the American-style campaigning practices were not simply imported as a package (Norris, 2004). Several other factors, too, have affected the process. In the following sections, this essay tried to analyse the Northeast Asian cases from two aspects: electoral system and political culture, and the media environment and campaign restrictions. Electoral system and political culture Before their electoral reforms, both Japan and Taiwan adopted SNTV (single nontransferable vote) in legislature elections (Lin, 2006). Each electorate casts only one vote, and seats are allocated to the top candidates within each multimember district (Hsieh, 2002). Under the majoritarian electoral system, candidates had to not only compete against counterparts, but within their own parties as well (Lin, 2006). It was therefore more important for candidates to carry out their own campaign, in order to win the office (Holtz-Bacha et al., 2007). On the other hand, for political parties, it was more critical to strategically maximise their total number of seats, rather than winning a higher total vote share (Lin, 2006). A culture of personalised election campaigns therefore developed, and party affiliation lost its importance accordingly (Hsieh, 1996). SNTV was argued to have attributed to the one-party dominance of LDP and KMT; yet,Show MoreRelatedDoes Modernization Lead Democracy Or Does It Not?2221 Words à |à 9 Pagesmodernization does not lead to democracy even as I explore the different kinds of literature written on this subject. Marketing Analysis Price And Brand Image - 1572 Words
In these modern days, consumers are bombarded with brands and advertising from different companies and they have a lot more options when it comes to purchasing a product. They usually rely on both intrinsic and extrinsic cues to solve their problem regarding to the quality of products. Consumers have to make their purchasing decision under various uncertainties and circumstances regarding to the product itself and its attributes as Cox (1962, p. 413) stated that ââ¬Ëconsumer s task in evaluating a product is to use cues from the array as the basis for making judgments about the productââ¬â¢. Marketers always try their best to fulfill the needs and wants of customers with positive, motivating values and association and the most obvious way isâ⬠¦show more contentâ⬠¦The definition of objective quality has been developed into different concepts such as product-based quality and manufacturing-based quality (Garvin, 1983). However, these concepts are all based on perception too so there is no standard which can be called the objective quality standard, it is just whether these specifications meet the managersââ¬â¢ requirements or not and that is when the gap between consumersââ¬â¢ perception and marketersââ¬â¢ appears. For example, when being asked about the quality perception of consumers, managers would answer performance, craftsmanship and other components that related to technical requirements, yet consumers listed different type of components that related to appearance or durability. On the contrary, perceived quality affects consumersââ¬â¢ satisfaction which leads to consumersââ¬â¢ behavioral intention as Bitner (1990) suggested that perceived quality can be similar to consumerââ¬â¢s attitude or ââ¬Ëa form of overall evaluation of a productââ¬â¢ (Olshavsky, 1985) and behavioral intention is a logical consequence of attitudes. When it comes to judging a product, consumers usually go through the analyzing stages about the information and benefit of the product. Therefore the ââ¬ËGrey benefit chainââ¬â¢ developed by Feigin and Young (1975) and the mean-ends chain concept are used to examine the cognitive structure of consumers, which consists of four levels: Product, functionalShow MoreRelatedPerceptual Maps in Marketing1180 Words à |à 5 PagesPerceptual Maps in Marketing Simulation Summary Thorr Motorcycles, Incorporated manufactures various models of motorcycles, and is a $5 billion company.
